PENTATEUCH
A term meaning "five volumes" (teuchos
in Alexandrian Greek meaning a book); applied to the first five books of
the Bible, in Tertullian
and Origen. "The book of the law" in Deuteronomy
28:61; 29:21; 30:10; 31:26; "the book of
the law of Moses," Joshua 23:6; Nehemiah 8:1;
in Ezra 7:6, "the law of Moses," "the book
of
Moses" (Ezra 6:18). The Jews now call it
Torah "the law," literally, the directory. in Luke
24:27
"Moses" stands for his book. (
